Typical Sunday morning. I wake up, have a little coffee, stop at Kinko’s (now FedEx Office–another rant for another day), spend too much money printing out scripts, grab a coffee traveler at Starbucks and meet some people to read some MACBETH—all before 10a.m.
At least, soon it will BECOME a typical weekend morning.
It started like this: two friends worked on the scene when Macbeth wants to cease the planning and not kill Duncan. It was very exciting to watch, especially all of the different ways it could go, and we talked about continuing the work. I wanted to dig deep into Shakespeare without any deadlines, so we could really just take our time and explore. We soon found so many varied ways of exploring it that we decided to “RE-EXplore” or “RE-EX” it. Many times. We added some actors, we’re adding designers, dramaturgs, fight choreographers.
The imagery within this play is so dense and layered that we are essentially exploring all of it, twice a month, until we feel it’s ready to move into a rehearsal process.
There will be more investigation and more blogging to come!
Let me know if you have anything to add about The Scottish Play…there will certainly be more to come……….
