SUMMARY OF THE LAB

For anyone pursuing a career as a theatre director or choreographer, this is the Los Angeles Lab, one of many throughout the continent of interest to you. A chance to meet peers and mentors, artistic directors and future collaborators. Learn what ideas are brewing between artistic minds around the world. Try new ideas. Expand your network. See a sampling of the wild wild west called Los Angeles theatre.

MY GOALS

One huge challenge with volunteering is that short-term projects easily turn into long-term projects. Although I’m happy with the ideas I’ve been able to implement with the Lab, I usually only get to truly work on these projects while on vacation. Luckily it’s fun and a good exercise in practicing what I preach.

MY UPDATES

Getting all infrastructure ready for applications to the 2012 Lab going live

The thirteenth annual Lab will take place May 19-26th in residence at Pasadena Playhouse.

As directors and choreographers we see everything changing around us. Besides putting a post on Facebook, is there anything out there in cyber-space for us or is it the antithesis of the Live theatrical experience? All opinions welcome.

(This is also the Sessions description I wish I had written myself and taught me to take that more seriously. Good lesson for my first year on the Steering Committee!)

Where is the map for a career path? Does being an Associate or Assistant give you the best opportunity or is it an end unto itself or a dead end? Can career goals and objectives will be fulfilled with this work or is it a detour? This panel off\ Associates and Assistants discuss.

(This panel had the poor timing of completely in the middle of our wrap-up sessions, and was also a little awkward because the person currently in my former position at a theater was in the room with at least ten people who applied for it.)
